Lakewood Learning Center
This is a very community-oriented Center. The staff knows most
of the neighbors and a large number of neighborhood children come
to the Center. The Lakewood Learning Center is situated on a residential
street and is comprised of two houses that have been adapted for
childcare. Around back, there is a large playground with areas for
each age group full of swings, climbing equipment, balls, and slides.
The Center is built for kids!
The
Center serves children ages 6 weeks to 12 years.
We offer infant care and we will co-potty train children
in cooperation with parents. Children don't have to be walking in
order to enroll as a Toddler as long as we have a note from your
family physician stating that your child is developmentally ready
to attend a childcare Center.
All
play areas are fenced and all tables and chairs are child-sized.
With staff members who speak English and Spanish, all rooms have
the ability to be bilingual. Being exposed to a new language benefits
all children at the Center.
The
staff at our Lakewood Learning Center is very knowledgeable and
well trained. All group leaders at the school must have at least
three year's experience in childcare. All Group Leaders have, at
minimum, completed college level courses Early Childhood 101 and
102. The staff has very low turnover which gives your child a sense
of stability and security. Our teachers will tell you that this
is the best place for youngsters with its caring, gently, kind and
loving staff! You may even get a hug when you visit.
This
Center offers some unique learning experiences for children. The
older children work on their reading skills by reading to the younger
ones. Because meals are served "family-style", the children
spend more time eating and have gained manners and social graces!
When
the children decided they want to learn about camping, the staff
sprang into action to come up with fun camping activities, like
singing camp songs, that they could enjoy right at the Center. The
kids have learned how to make s'mores, pitch tents and teepees,
and have imagined wading pools as rivers in the wilderness. Every
year, the kids join our Green Mountain Center for a barbeque and
softball tournament.
This
Center has been a pilot site in the Colorado-state sponsored CDE
pilot program with Educare Colorado and the Triad Country Program,
working to advance childhood learning programs, bring in grant funding,
provide services for children with special needs, offer family support
services and mentor teachers.
